As it continues to test this new feature to deliver quality improvements outside of the major Windows feature updates, Microsoft has released yet another Windows 11 Update Stack Package. Microsoft’s Update Stack Packages are designed to lessen the likelihood of problems during setup due to specific updates.
Microsoft has started rolling out Update Stack Package to everyone with Build 22478 and later this year. Since no changelog is available, it is unclear how many changes or fixes are included in the new “Update Stack Package 1201.2305.30021.0” from Microsoft.
The Update Stack Package “will help ensure that your PC has the best and least disruptive experience possible when installing new updates,”Officials from Microsoft remarked in an earlier post on the blog this year.
Users on the Dev and Canary channels will receive Update Stack Package 1201.2305.30021.0 today. If all goes as planned, Update Stack Packages will be made available in the production channel after the next feature update for Windows 11 is released.
How exactly Update Stack Packages enhance the Windows Update experience is unknown at this time. The packages, however, were previously explained to be deployed by Microsoft officials in order to improve stability just before a monthly or feature update.
To sum up, update stack packages are incremental updates that are released ahead of cumulative updates to cut down on post- and in-installation complaints. If you install the stack package before the primary cumulative update, for instance, you should encounter fewer installation errors.
Microsoft is currently only testing this update within the preview builds, and it is limited to the Dev Channel / Canary channel. If this works as planned, it will be implemented in Windows 11 22H2 computers.
Microsoft prepares Windows 11’s second feature
Later this year, Microsoft will also release Windows 11 build 23H2. This would be the second official update to the OS, but it is anticipated to release with only a small number of new features and quality enhancements (via Windows 11 Moment 4).
This is due to Windows 11 23H2 being an enablement package that activates previously dormant features, and being based on the previous version 22H2. For instance, once this update is installed, the improved performance in File Explorer such as separating icons in the taskbar.
As a result, Windows 11 23H2 will be more compact than 22H2 and take less time to install.
